extnd support

The free Mac companion is required. You need iOS 17 or later, macOS 14 or later, and both devices on the same local network. Keep the companion hosting while you use the display.

Connect for the first time

Open extnd on Mac and choose Start hosting. The pairing QR code opens automatically. Grant Screen Recording permission; reopen the companion if macOS asks.
On iPhone, choose Pair with Mac. Allow Camera and Local Network access, then scan the Mac’s code with the camera inside the Connection panel.
Move a window onto the extra display. Adjust its position in System Settings → Displays if it is on an unexpected side.

To reopen the code while hosting with no iPhone connected, open Advanced & touch input → Show pairing code on Mac.

Saved Macs appear in Connection details while available on your local network. Leave the Mac’s network interface selection on Automatic unless your network needs a specific interface.

If the Mac does not appear

Check that the companion is hosting and Local Network access is enabled for extnd on iPhone. Guest and managed networks can isolate devices even when their Wi-Fi names match.

Check your VPN or firewall’s local-network rules. Allow the connection as appropriate; do not disable security protections broadly. Reopen the apps after correcting network access or permissions.

If you cannot scan the code

On Mac, open Advanced & touch input, expand Advanced, and reveal the secure key. On iPhone, expand Advanced in Connection details and enter the Mac’s address and secure key. Manual connection does not save a paired Mac.

Keep the QR code and key private. If shared, stop hosting and reset pairing on the Mac, then scan the new code on each trusted device.

If the display is blank or slow

Check Screen Recording permission in macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security. An extended desktop can be empty until you move a window onto it using your Mac.

Use a reliable local network. extnd streams at up to 60 fps, not 120 fps, and does not offer USB or internet streaming. Network conditions affect responsiveness and image delivery.

Touch, keyboard, and audio

On Mac, open Advanced & touch input, choose Allow touch input, and grant Accessibility permission for optional touch control. Viewing with your Mac’s mouse and keyboard does not require it. extnd does not provide an iPhone keyboard or stream audio.

Stop streaming or remove pairing

Choose Stop hosting on Mac to end the session. There is no persistent Disconnect overlay on the connected iPhone display.

Use Forget pairing in iPhone Connection details to remove a saved Mac. To revoke shared credentials, stop hosting on Mac and choose Reset pairing under Advanced. Other devices must pair again; forgetting a Mac on one iPhone does not revoke another device’s credential.

Purchases

The iPhone app is a one-time App Store purchase; the Mac companion is free. There is no subscription or in-app purchase. Apple manages billing and refunds. See Apple’s billing support.

Remove private desktop contents, pairing codes, secure keys, passwords, and personal network details from attachments. extnd does not automatically send the developer your desktop or diagnostic logs.
